Student Organization for Animal Rights
The Student Organization for Animal Rights was founded in 1999. SOAR operates on the principle that animals are not ours to do with as we please and works every day to encourage a compassionate understanding of animals at the U of U.
Our most aggressive campaign is the "Encampment Against Exploitation". For two weeks or a month we pitch up a tent in the free speech are by the Union to protest the use of sentient animals, including infant baboons, cats, dogs, and others in cruel research at the University of Utah.
Not only is animal experimentation bad science that leads to human harm, but on ethical grounds, it is morally wrong to harm one sentient species for the supposed benefit of another. We encourage others to extend the circle of compassion to include all living creatures-human and nonhuman alike.
